Origin of Pazyryk Rug!

 
The Pazyryk Rug, the oldest surviving rug in the world, 5th century BC

 

Pazyryk is a local name for a valley in the Altai Mountains lying in Siberian Russia.

In 1994, Russian archaeologist "Sergei Ivanovich Rudenko"  discovered the oldest known “Knotted Rug” in the Pazyryk valley, about 5000 feet up on the Altai Mountains in Siberia. This rug was used to cover horses. The measurements of this rug are 2 * 1.83 meters with 3600 knots in sq.dm, which is woven in copper-brown and light green colors. It was found preserved in the frozen tombs of Scythian Chiefs, which were 2400 to 2500 years old. The Pazyryk rug was found with a number of other objects including, Mummified body of a man, a woman’s footwear, a musical instrument, a carriage, a horse saddle, a bridle… All these discoveries are kept and exhibited in the Hermitage Museum of Leningrad, St. Petersburg.
